The PTM asked me to design and produce a guidebook for their giftshop. We settled on a 210mm square design which gives a great compromise between A5 and A4 and looks a bit different. A colour coded time-line graphic runs up the left and right edges of each page to highlight the year of the museum’s history. The layout was kept clean and easy to read with the large archived photographs giving the main interest. I also illustrated the map of the valley and the 3D plans of the museum and tunnels. It was printed locally by Headland Printers, Penzance.
Brochure specification: Size: 44 page, 210x210mm | Ink: Full colour litho | Stock: Cover – 300gsm with mat laminated. Inner – 170gsm silk | Finishing: Perfect bound with 4mm spine

New website update for Beyond the Sea Gallery in Padstow. Taking elements from the previous design in terms of layout and branding, I completely reworked the website from the ground up. It now has a much more user-friendly e-commerce shop for both the viewing customer and client. The site will be evolving with new categories over the next few months to establish a varied stock of art and gifts.

These Skoda UK stage graphics were produced for an awards evening to celebrate various Skoda awards for their cars. After the chosen concepts were finalised I set about creating the hi-res versions and incorporating the branding elements. Using Photoshop, I blended together three separate images to create the Yeti banner. At 3.7m x 4m in size they were printed by a specialist large format printers on to a single piece of vinyl. This A4 ‘point of sale’ board is designed for Poppy’s wholesale customers. Placed next to Poppy’s cosies and bags (and more!), it lets the shop and gallery customers learn a little more about Poppy and her business. The brief was to bring it in line with the current style and branding we now have on other promotional material. I produced it in Photoshop CS4 as a collage of different fabrics and photos.

An e-commerce website for the already successful shop based in Padstow, Cornwall. Susie Ray, owner, photographer and designer behind TPMC, came to Carta via a client referral (thanks Sarah at MYPA!). After meeting Susie to discuss the project and to get a good insight into her products, I drafted up a concept that pretty much hit the mark first time. The site is fully updatable by TPMC and orders are processed with PayPal.

View all postcards here
This was a fun, free-hand design collaboration between Poppy and myself. Poppy required the finishing touches and layout designs produced for a set of 6 postcards. Firstly, I took photographs of the the flat appliqued stitched pictures Poppy had designed. Then after scaling and colour-correcting, I added hand drawn text to some of the card fronts. Then, turning to the back designs I took some of the elements from the front and combined them with more hand drawn text and illustrations. Printed on 100% recycled card within 2 miles of Poppy’s studio.

23-29 September 2010
10am – 6pm
Old Spitalfields Market, London, E1 6EW
Origin is the Crafts Council’s annual showcase of original contemporary craft, bringing together 220 of the most innovative UK and international makers for 1 week. It offers visitors a rare chance to buy directly from the makers and meet them face to face.
I’m off to London next week for a good nose around Origin, the designer-maker craft fair. I last went to Origin in 2008 when it was located at Somerset House. Now at the newly renovated Old Spitalfields Market, only one week long and no change over, it means being able to visit all the exhibitors in one go. Much better for non residents of London. So, if you are interested in high end designer-maker’s work then Origin is the show for you. For more info see www.originuk.org for more details.

Christian and Alice O’Reilly first spoke to me after seeing work that I had produced for Abbott & Ellwood and Poppy Treffry. They were needing to update their existing website with a version that could be easily updated by themselves. The ability to add and update both the gallery and blog section is made very easy with the WordPress CMS and a couple of neat plug-ins. The main web design priority was to show Christian’s furniture as big and cleanly as possible. I kept the layout very understated which reflects the high-end bespoke work. After all, it’s the furniture that viewers want to see, not an over designed flashy website.
